An Introduction to Our Work

On this page we would like to introduce you to the work and the aims of our institution that is named after one of our grandfathers -- Wilhelm Hugo -- who was beheaded on September 17, 1942, in the German city of Frankfurt am Main for what was called under the NS-jurisdiction: "Preparation to High Treason". With their refusal to think and act like the majority of the Germans at the time, Mr. Hugo and the six men who were murdered along with him had indeed "betrayed" a society, that did not know justice nor equal rights. A society that had excluded solidarity and compassion from its moral system of values -- a society that was aiming at the destruction of the personal integrity of its members. Still today the biggest taboo within German society is to name the roots of German National Socialism and to unmask the system behind it -- a system that has never been broken up and that is as virulent as ever. A system that is not limited on Germany or Europe.

When being born, human beings do not already bear the hate inside that later on in their lives makes them torment and murder other human beings. Our research aims at demonstrating how and when this hate came into existence, by what ways it is planted into each new generation and what would be necessary to finally overcome it and to extinguish it from human existence.

Our investigations focus on the following topics:

anti-Semitism:

European History:

The Wilhelm Hugo - Exilarchiv was founded in 1996 at a time when we were living in the andalusian City of Motril since we had been threatened in Germany because of our investigations into the activities of companions of than chancellor Helmut Kohl.

Motril is situated on the Granadian coast that is also known as the Tropical Coast. Unlike one may assume there is no tourism infrastructure at all in Motril who has been governed for years either by the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party (PSOE) alone or in coalition with other left-wing political parties such as the United Left (Izquierda Unida). As the rest of Andalusia Motril has a high unemployment rate and many people try to earn a living by running small shops where you can buy everything from food to household articles. Many young women work in supermarkets that usually belong to multinational companies and that often do not even pay the salary that is fixed in the contracts of employment. Those who posses land are setting up more and more hot houses thus making use of a policy of the Andalusian government that provides subsidies for this kind of agriculture regardless of the impacts it has on the soil and the atmosphere. It seems as if agriculture was the greatest revenue of the Motril economy. Than there is an industrial installation called Torraspapel S.A. which is said to be a paper mill. This installation was originally set up in the late sixties at a time when Spain was still ruled by the dictator Francisco Franco. Today it belongs to Torras Hostench a company complex owned by the Ministry of the Finance of the State of Kuwait

Since we had turned ourselves very seriously ill while living in Motril and because of the unusual high number of children being born with Down's syndrome as well as the very rare types of cancer many people very dying of we started investigating the role of environmental pollutants in Motril. It did not take us long to find out that the so-called paper mill that is in fact producing or processing hazardous materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and aluminum is releasing 2,3,7,8 Tetrachlordibenzo-p-dioxin into the atmosphere. For several months we were trying to persuade local, regional and national authorities to fulfill their obligations in accordance with both national Spanish regulations and regulations of the European Union and to stop the highly toxic emissions of the Torraspapel plant.

Than, on May 31, 1999, they did what they have done so many times before: they accused us of exactly those crimes they had committed themselves. At about 14.45 central European summertime on May 31 we were served with summons for June 2, 1999. The summons did not mention the crime they were accusing us of nor did it give the judge's name.

Our son Dan, who was six months old at the time was also accused and summoned. Dan whose pregnancy had been critical for himself and his mother due to the toxic emissions of Torraspapel and who had only survived his own birth due to our knowledge and with the help of a friend who is a medical practitioner had been summoned for examination "in capacity as accused". As said before: Dan was six months old at the time. Without giving any reasons our two older children, who had been suffering for month from the intoxication of the Torraspapel plant, were summoned to be examined by a forensic doctor. Although requested by us on various occasion no measuring of the toxic in our blood and in the soil of Motril has been ordered to this day.

Since the Motril courtrooms close at 15.00 there was no way for us to talk to the responsible judge during opening hours. So we tried to get hold of the judge who was on standby but were refused to talk to him or her. After consulting a lawyer it had become pretty clear that there was no way of defending ourselves against an establishment that does not seem to have noticed that the world has changed a lot since 1492. In the early hours of June 2, 1999, we left Motril for the sake of our children and for our own sake as well.

What has happened to us is of course nothing new. Since the times of the honorable Torquemada it is a common practice of certain men to accuse innocent people of precisely those crimes they themselves have committed. And usually, as it was the case with us, one is accused of having done harm to children. Centuries ago we would have ended on the stakes of Avila...

For two years we have now been living and working again in Germany.
